sample output form a couple of my first max for live instruments mixed together. the first is simply an adaptation of a max patch i’ve used for years called the “crossfader” which simply creates tuneable crossfading drones. in this case volumes are controlled by max midi control values. the second is a really simple sample-based thing using a groove~ object with a LFO controlled filter.

A lot can happen in ten years. A decade ago I had no children. Now I have two. They are the centre of my world and I look forward to continuing to watch them grow. They do this fast. In another ten years one will be close to learning to drive.
A decade ago I didn’t have a loscil record released. In fact, a decade ago loscil was a brand new idea – a side project I started to accommodate electroacoustic music that I was making after leaving university music school. Shortly into this decade I sent a demo to kranky and our relationship began. Now 4 (soon to be 5) releases later I am grateful to be part of the kranky family. loscil is now my main musical outlet and I hope to keep the project alive for another decade.
A decade ago marked the beginning of “my other half”. Krista and I had our 10 year anniversary this past summer. Hard to believe we’ve been together for over 10 years now but its true. I am a lucky man and I can only hope I will continue to be this lucky for another decade.
A decade ago I didn’t have a job. Actually, I was between jobs but truthfully, I was not in good financial shape. I had a hefty student loan to pay off, an apartment to pay rent for every month and income tax and credit card debt. Krista helped me through a couple rough months and thankfully I landed a job in the gaming industry which allowed me to pay off those debts and get into the black. I’m still in this job and though I’m not sure I can do it for another decade I’m thankful to have had a prosperous career in audio.
A decade ago I didn’t own a house. In fact, I couldn’t have dreamed of owning a house. Not that owning a house is essential, but I feel lucky for having a chance to own a house and make it a home for my family. It isn’t much, but it is ours and we call it home and we love it.
A decade ago I had two grandparents. Now, I have none. Despite the sadness in losing my Grannie and Papa this past year, I feel fortunate to have known them so well. I got to enjoy many years with them as a child and adult and learned about many of their fascinating stories; stories of the great depression, stories of the war, stories of living in the Yukon and of family from Scotland and Wales… I hope to remember these stories and pass them on to my kids. A sense of who and where we came from is important.
